Feiyue To The Future

Feiyue as a brand from its roots as a China brand taken to a international level by the French is by no means an easy feat. Through leaps and bounds, we see Feiyue becoming a world-renowned in no time.

Using the Feiyue Classics mid-cut white canvas shoe, 3M reflective material is first glued to the side panels and cut-holes were made. Florescent orange 3M strips are then interwoven with the side panels by hand to create the weave pattern. This not only signifies the deeply intertwined relationship with the Chinese roots of Feiyue and it’s new French owners, but also new life injected into the brand through the re-works of the shoe designs by the very same team.

The florescent orange represents vibrancy in the urban youth and adults today and that the brand will shine with an infinite glow in the many years to come. The tongue portion of the shoes was intentionally left in its natural state, signifying it’s Chinese origins. The label on the shoe tongue was replaced with the words 飛越 (Feiyue) and 時空  (To the future) embroidered both in Chinese characters and English as a representation of how Feiyue progresses further into the future.

Another notable area to look at is the flipping of the lace area, which signifies the transition of the China-branded shoe label to it’s successful breakout beyond the shores of China since it’s takeover by the French.

This design was inspired by the evergreen plant, which is a plant that has leaves all seasons.

We see, Feiyue as brand that will progress through many seasons and years to come with its roots deeply planted in our fashion culture. To me the brand brings both the nostalgic feel of wearing canvas shoes to school in Singapore in the 80’s, and also the future where it breaks away from the typical 70-80’s style into something that matches our current fashion lifestyle.

Green is the main color of this design, as we wanted something unique and subtly pleasing to the eyes. For both canvas surfaces and insoles, I wanted to create the carpet grass effect so I used treated reindeer moss.

Striking lime green acrylic paint is used on the rubber sole and trimmings to add to the “green” effect of the design and also to capture one’s attention.

This pair of Adidas Pro Model was custom-made as a tribute to Adidas's 60th Anniversary. Basically, the design revolves around the 60 years of achievement and global dominance of this sporting giant. Pictures of sports legends, historical moments, landmarks, endorsements and inspiring world class athletes were included in the collage, based on the Adidas globe concept.

Codenamed "Gold Dust" the partially woven pair of Superstar II sports gold, bronze and brown elements. We retained the back panels and tongue, which gives the shoes a classy feel and complements our woven side panels. The woven side panels are made from materials that we have recycled from our workshop.

Our heartfelt thanks goes out to Wilfred from Adidas, for his contribution and support to the local streetwear scene, this pair has his name embroidered on one side and the ADIDAS signature logo on the other.

Codenamed "Hyperstrike Woven II", this is the second installation of our original Hyperstrikes. As its name suggests, this pair of Campus II is reconstructed with woven panels all round. The woven side panels are made from materials recycled from our workshop.

This pair was specially made for the AdiArtist event. One LUCKY winner who purchased and voted for us in the draw, will walk away with this 1 OF 1 custom made sneaker. 

Adidas Hi-Lite (Sole Obsession.org)

Codenamed "Hi-Lite" we have reconstructed the Adidas Stan Smith which sports fluorescent yellow and patent white material that resembles the colours of a tennis ball. The Stan Smith's are vintage tennis shoes that falls under the Adidas Originals Portfolio. The woven side panels and toe boxes are made from materials that we have recycled from our workshop.

This eye-catching pair is a tribute to SOLE OBSESSION 2nd anniversary, the only street media in spore who is actively involved in organising local sneaker and street art events in singapore.

Codenamed "Galactico", we have reconstructed the base shoe with leftover materials from our workshop which somewhat goes in line with ADIDAS' Grun recycling initiative. we chose silver reflective materials to give it the futuristic and electro feel.

This glittery pair is a tribute to STREETHING, which just celebrated its 3rd anniversary on 31th august 2008. Kudos to them for their support and contribution to the streetwear scene, organising events and playing their part to promote SEA artists in South East Asia region. STREETHING is a well known street wear media based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 

Woven AF1 (Dave White exclusive)

Unlike the previous wovens produced, these were considered semi-wovens as it only covers the front toe and side panels, while the rest were finished off with materials.

Nothing loud in terms of colourways were according to Dave White's preference, Black and Grey were picked as they are his favourite colourways. These 1 of 1 semi-wovens were Hand-weaved using Matt black and patent black materials, with swoosh in grey and finished off with black crocodile skin.

As the name suggests, we chose a pair of Dunk Low and changed the panel to give it new look, resembling the Air Force 1 at the lace and front portions. The whole shoe was fully hand-woven with black patent and light pink materials used as the main colorway.

Candy Walks takes inspiration from Japanese Pop Culture. It is companied by Neon blue stripes that represents the neon lights in Tokyo and Tiger Translate signature color. Manga, cute cartoon characters and Sushi are some are elements that makes this pair shoe cute and quirky and all so Japanese.

This pair is mainly constructed using oriental fabric. We also did additional floral embroidery on it to enhance the visual appearance. The use of black color material represents the dark and dangerous back alleys of the neon-lit Tokyo city. We converted the low cut ladies flats to a high cut boots for the upcoming winter season.

This pair of customs is designed exclusively for the launch of the DIS project.

The colorway comprises of the Singapore colours - red and white. The colours coincide with the DIS corporate colour. The reflective 3M material represents the pool of unknown designers involved in the DIS project, where they are like undiscovered stars waiting to shine in the vast galaxy.

The woven theme represents the unified and binding strength of DIS and the designers, working hand in hand to push local design and brands far beyond our shores.

The first collaboration work with a local Visual artist - Killer Gerbil. He has been creating the character The Killer Gerbil since 2003 as an alter ego; a street rat that kill empty spaces with colors and forms with means of beautifying. Inspired by his pet gerbils, street culture and urban art.

This pair of customs features both repeated patterns of Killer Gerbil's signature font and the Hypethetic logo. The multi-faceated tone with gradient effects signify the paint sprayed by a spray can of a graffiti artist. An interesting thing to look out for is the Nike Swoosh made up of white fur which represents Killer Gerbil's signature character fur coat.

Parasite Invasion

Parasite Invasion represents a milestone in Hypethetic's design roadmap, being the first to be retrofitted from sole up and 95% handsewn.

The green patterns are likened to the parasites lurking in the dark swampy waters of the amazon river. The pink snake-skin Nike stripe represents the predator in preparation for an invasion to take their prey down.

SB Galore

SB Galore is inspired by a black jacket produced by Nike a couple of years back. 

The inner lining of the jacket is covered with prints of SBs and was known to cost a bomb.

The pair of kicks is lined with black snakeskin on the front and black and brown rattan like materials. The rest of the kick is lined with prints of SBs, bringing back the nostalgic feel of that black Nike jacket we've always longed for.

“Sole Warlord III” is inspired by the Five Tiger Generals of the Kingdom of Shu during the period of the Three Kingdoms in China. The Five Tiger Generals namely, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yu, Ma Chao and Huang Zhong are fierce warlords and generals who were bestowed this title in honor of their contributions to the establishment of the kingdom.

They have fought countless battles and were almost invincible in their campaigns. This release is a follow-up of our previous release of the Sole Warlord featured in the Sole Collector AF-1 issue.

Sole Warlord III Dunk Low - NikeSB.org Exclusive

The dunk low edition was specially created for NikeSB.org and bears similar concept as the original Sole Warlord III. Sole Warlord III" is inspired by the Five Tiger Generals of the Kingdom of Shu during the period of the Three Kingdoms in China.

The sample was auctioned online at a closing price of US$610 and the winner out of 160 contestants walked away with the 1 of 1 pair through a shoe raffle organised by NikeSB.org.

To commemorate our first anniversary, Hypethetic created the Armadillo.

Using real quality leather to create an exquisite look. It's looks is likened to an armour similar to the Armadillo, which has a armour plated shell on its back. Hand stiched from ground up, it’s the one and only pair ever created.

Featuring a collaboration of Far East style with the spirit of the Wild West.

ANTZ and HYPETHETIC dolled up this pair of NIKE DUNK low with premium snakeskin leather from Spain. A finishing flavor of oriental patterns and colors gives life to this one of a kind creation.

ANTZ is a seasoned graffiti artist and digital illustrator for The Cannery and now defunct superclub Ministry of Sound.

A commissioned project by Nike Singapore, repeated windmill patterns of Hypethetic's logo was used as the design theme.

In addition to the design on the Bearbrick, Hypethetic also produced a matching Windrunner hoodie, Bearbrick scaled version AF-1 custom and gym bag.

This piece is being displayed at Limited Edition (Queensway) - Singapore

A project done to commemorate the opening of Sole What? store (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia).

Coloured vinyl strips of Sole What and Hypethetic brand are used to line the face and parts of the Bearbrick to signify the cohesion between the sneaker community in Singapore and Malaysia.

In addition to the design on the Bearbrick, repeated windmill patterns of Hypethetic's, Bearbrick, Nike and Sole What's logo were printed on the specially made hoodie. This piece is up on display at the Sole What? store in KL.

FULL GRIP is inspired by an illustration by MASTERMIND (Japan). It's a brillant idea to construct a cover over the laces area to serve as protection when it comes to skateboarding and is asthetically pleasing to the eye as well.

In short, FULL GRIP is wrapped up with red snakeskin and the 3M material used around the shoes creates a reflective effect & visual aid when it comes to night skating or roadstreets skating. You'll love it when it reflects at night!

Hype Or Money (H.O.M)

To commemorate the launch of Hypethetic on September 11, 2006, Hypethetic produced a sample piece of Hype Or Money (H.O.M).

Sporting the Singapore Currency, H.O.M is inspired by by Futura's FLOMs. Black vacuum material clads the rest of the other parts of the kicks giving it a space-age feel. It also comes with a matching gold HYP lacelock.

To commemorate the launch of Hypethetic on September 11, 2006.

This commemorative pair of dunks is the one and only pair produced for Sole Collector magazine's AF-1 competition.

This pair was produced to also pay tribute to Nike's AF-1 25th Anniversary. One of the most detailed pair of customs released by Hypethetic to date.

Sporting gold and white fabric, a pair of matching lace protectors silkscreened with the Hypethetic Dragon Emblem were made.

Sole Warlord II

If you wondered where Sole Warlord II went, well here it is ! The design that was never released to public for so long.

The theme of the shoe revolves around a historical figure named, Guan Yu. He was a general under the warlord Liu Bei during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms era of China. He played a significant role in the civil war that led to the collapse of the Han Dynasty and the establishment of the Kingdom of Shu, of which Liu Bei was the first emperor.

Guan Yu's weapon was a guandao named Green Dragon Crescent Blade, which resembled a halberd. Thus the green oriental material was chosen for this pair of custom.
